Using storying as her method, she presents an alternative view of autistic rhetoricity by foregrounding the cunning rhetorical abilities of autistics and by framing autism as a narrative condition wherein autistics are the best-equipped people to define their experience. She also critiques early intensive behavioral interventions-which have much in common with gay conversation therapy-and questions the ableist privileging of intentionality and diplomacy in rhetorical traditions. Using a queer theory framework, Yergeau notes the stereotypes that deny autistic people their humanity and the chance to define themselves while also challenging cognitive studies scholarship and its reification of the neurological passivity of autistics. "In Authoring Autism Melanie Yergeau defines neurodivergence as an identity-neuroqueerness-rather than an impairment.

5/24/2023 0 Comments Abandon meg cabotJohn has whisked Pierce off to the Underworld, to protect her from the Furies that possess the average human being, and deceive them by thinking they are harmless. Underworld picks up from where Abandon left off. I'm not sure if it's because I was in a slight reading slump, or because the book didn't match my mood, however, for the beginning part of the book, I was slightly disappointed. When I saw Underworld sitting at the library and took it home to read, I was slightly disappointed with it. When I read the first book in the Underworld series, I adored it and couldn't wait to get my hands on the second one. I am a huge fan of Meg Cabot, I've been reading her books since I was about eight years old and I always love her stories. and they might have more to do with its ruler than with his enemies.Īnd unless Pierce is careful, this time there'll be no escape. on the one who sent them there and on the one whom he loves.īut while Pierce might be safe from the Furies in the Underworld, far worse dangers could be lurking for her there. Some are so unhappy with where they ended up after leaving the Underworld, they've come back as Furies, intent on vengeance. Her captor, John Hayden, claims it's for her own safety. Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera isn't dead.īut she is being held against her will in the dim, twilit world between heaven and hell, where the spirits of the deceased wait before embarking upon their final journey. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Beard with Me by Penny ReidThis particular book is very, very special, only because it’s about Billy. Penny has engraved every single Winston Brother’s name in my heart. Reading about their stories, their pasts, present and future is so exciting to me. I’ve probably said this next statement before in another Winston Brothers book review, but I’ll say it again these characters feel like family to me. In an apocalyptic situation, he’d be the first person on earth to lead others to safety, overcome catastrophe, or die trying.īilly is fearless, Billy is disciplined, and Billy is honorable. No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstances-because nothing is beyond his control-is Billy’s specialty. Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart. In an apocalyptic situation, she’d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarlet’s specialty. No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire (aka Claire McClure) and is just the beginning of their epic love story. ‘Beard With Me’ is the origin story of Billy Winston and Scarlet St. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Creepshow 1982 stephen kingSeveral additional locations were also used for filming: Filming took place at the Greensburg location throughout 1981. The school was converted into a film studio, and the episodes “The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill”, and “They’re Creeping Up on You”, as well as the prologue and epilogue, were filmed in their entirety at the former school. In keeping with Romero’s tradition of filming in and around the Pittsburgh area, most of the film was shot in an empty all-girls school located outside Greensburg, Pennsylvania. It consists of five short stories: “Father’s Day”, “The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill”, “Something to Tide You Over”, “The Crate” and “They’re Creeping Up on You!” Two of these stories were adapted from King’s short stories. Romero leased an old boy’s academy (Penn Hall) to build extensive sets for the film. The film was shot on location in Pittsburgh and its suburbs, including Monroeville. It was considered a sleeper hit at the box office when released in November 1982, earning $21,028,755 domestically and remains a popular film to this day among horror genre fans. Romero again engaged makeup and special effects artist Tom Savini for this film. Marshall, as well as Stephen King himself. The film’s ensemble cast included Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Fritz Weaver, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson and E. Creepshow is a 1982 horror anthology film with elements of black comedy directed by Romero and written by Stephen King. Romero’s zombie pictures, I may love Creepshow just a little bit more. Foremost among them are Sergeant Wurren of the Dullchester Constabulary as he goes about his bumbling investigations and ludicrous questioning, and Wurren’s nemesis, Boyce’s Boy - you know, the lad who delivers for the greengrocer - a most extraordinarily intelligent and amusing imp. Soon the Dean, a speckled pig - the rest of the sty goes later - and a wind-up toy cannot be located.Īs I said, the plot is not the reason to read this novel it should be read for Thorndike’s descriptive ability and his characters. Then the spinster bee lady, complete with veil, is found missing, if that makes any sense. A Minor Canon vanishes, followed shortly by a second Minor Canon. In the Precincts strange disappearances are occurring. Most of the events take place in the fascinating Dullchester Cathedral. It has to do with a treasure hunt by a flagitious doctor of medicine who is featureless and a Chinese villain who in his brief appearance manifests great charm despite his lust for the heroine and despite his vile antecedents and even viler predilections. Also: Jonathan Cape, UK, 1933.įorget about the plot in this thriller, which must have creaked even in the ’20s and which Thorndike does not energize or even, I must confide, make much sense of at the end. Battered and outnumbered, the remnant of the Nine forge new alliances, make friends of enemies, and prepare to stand against the last great press of evil. Now Dyrth is after Haegan’s power-the Fierian’s power. He’s taken the blood of the royal family. He’s taken Zaethien and Hetaera, the mightiest cities of the Nine. He’s taken the Embers of countless Accelerants. Her Deliverers wait as Poired Dyrth marches unchecked through the Nine Kingdoms. All opinions are my own.Ībiassa’s people fall. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I loved watching these characters change and grow, both in how they related to their friends and families and in their connections with those who captured their hearts. There were also some absolutely beautiful love stories that developed within this entire series. The raw intensity of the struggles that these characters faced kept me eagerly turning pages. Old squabbles and strongholds were broken down as new alliances formed. I was definitely pulled into this story of ultimate good vs evil, truth vs lies, and power vs sacrificial love. The author did a fantastic job creating this fantasy realm. You are going to want to know what happens next as quickly as possible! □ Fierian was an amazing conclusion to this powerful fantasy series! I highly recommend reading all three books in order, otherwise you will not know what is going on! I also suggest that you have the next book in the series ready to go for when you finish each story. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Fool's Bluff by Lee GreggDetails About: Patriot Lies by Scott Blade In short, it is truly heartbreaking for all involved and a captivating read. Whatever happens in the world, he demonstrates, ends up in our house, in the paint and the pipes and the pillows and every item of furniture.īill Bryson has one of the liveliest, most inquisitive minds on the planet, and he is a master at turning the seemingly isolated or mundane fact into an occasion for the most diverting exposition imaginable. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.” The bathroom provides the occasion for a history of hygiene the bedroom, sex, death, and sleep the kitchen, nutrition and the spice trade and so on, as Bryson shows how each has figured in the evolution of private life. Bryson takes readers on a tour of his house, a rural English parsonage, showing how each room has figured in changes in private life.
